We are hiring one (1) full time, permanent Senior Engineer, Franchise Engineering position working out of Edmonton, AB.
The Senior Engineer oversees the design, review, and approval of engineering plans and standards, ensuring all work complies with required codes, procedures, and best practices. They ensure health & safety, environmental, operational, and customer requirements are met throughout project planning and execution, and they communicate expectations to customers affected by EPCOR’s work.
What you’d be responsible for
· Authenticate engineering designs, standards, and specifications; recommend modifications and new approaches
· Lead electrical distribution design projects, procure materials, issue and approve work orders, and oversee field inspections and contractor performance
· Set project priorities and engineering execution plans, including work package issuance dates, employee work assignments, and managing schedule and workflow across teams
· Promote innovation and continuous improvement in design practices and solutions while championing necessary Management of Change initiatives
· Guide designers to perform stakeholder-level review of engineering designs with operations and field employees to ensure constructability and system compatibility
· Mentor and coach engineers, designers and technical staff; provide feedback to staff and management
· Establish, monitor, measure, and report performance metrics related to engineering designs and work packages
· Develop, implement, and review engineering processes, guidelines, or manuals and create plans to ensure compliance; stay current on best practices to promote a safety-focused culture
· Manage complex customer relationships and collaborate with internal teams and industry stakeholders to ensure positive project outcomes
· Act as a subject matter expert in distribution engineering (e.g., underground and aerial system design), providing technical support, design guidance, and specialized training
· Ensure compliance with regulatory codes (CSA, Alberta Electrical Utility Code, Canadian Electrical Code) and EPCOR standards
What’s required to be successful
· Degree or diploma in Civil or Electrical Engineering from a recognized post-secondary institute
· With a degree we require:
o Professional Engineer (P.Eng.)
· With a diploma we require:
o Professional Licensee (P.L. Eng.) with the ability to review, approve and stamp electrical distribution system designs and/or civil utility construction designs
· Currently registered or eligible to be registered with APEGA
· 8+ years of professional/supervisory experience in electrical distribution systems including design and construction methods, procedures, and work practices in aerial and underground distribution systems
· Experience in designing complex distribution utility construction projects with increasing responsibility
· Familiarity with Alberta Electric Utility Code and CSA standards
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office, Electric Office or other GIS systems, IVARA, and/or other work management tools such as MS Project or Power BI
· Strong diagnostic skills required to manage complex technical problems and develop innovative solutions
· Demonstrated ability to lead complex projects and manage budgets
· Strong interpersonal and facilitation skills to advise, mentor, and influence internal and external stakeholders
· Excellent communication, collaboration, and decision-making skills
